Welcome back BnB fam! grab your copy of Ninth House, a cup of your favourite beverage and snuggle into your cozy blanket so we can get started with this discussion!

! SPOILER ALERT ! The following post contains spoilers for the chapters 1 to 5. So unless you’ve read them, DON’T PROCEED ! SPOILER ALERT !

-S P O I L E R S-

Let me be honest, I don't know what to even talk about. All I want to do is screech like a demon and flail around because Leigh Bardugo is a queen.

Let's first talk about the genre. I'm here for this whole urban fantasy meets dark academia vibe of Ninth House. Like I just want to make a dozen mood boards and aesthetic boards for this book. Also I intensively researched Yale and it's secret societies. In case you haven't noticed yet, I'M OBSESSED.

I'm loving all the diary entries at the end of each chapter by the way! They add so much more to the world building and knowing Bardugo, I'd suggest paying close attention to the entries.

So the characters! Alex is intriguing but not the kind of MC you fall in love with immediately. But like her or hate her, you definitely can't ignore her. right from the epilogue you know there's so much more to her past and I remember wabting to know her backstory so badly! She sure is super intriguing and mysterious and I'm sure all of you are looking forward to know more about what happened to her and about Hellie.

Okay Daniel Arlington is like a mix of Ravenclaw and Slytherin and honestly, i just adore him. Not in a book boyfriend way yet but I find him more relatable in many ways. His desire for knowledge, wanting to be prepared for everything and being moody about sudden changes and everything? I 100% get that. I feel ya man.

MURDER MYSTERIES ARE MY FAVE. Okay that makes me sound morbid but

okay I had to do it. Sherlock would approve. The murder mystery is just getting started and I can't wait as Alex unearths it all.

Okay so the magic part of it and the secret societies. I'M OBSESSED. Trust me guys, look up the secret societies and all the conspiracy theories behind it all. It's super interesting. Also the magic in Ninth House! I NEED MORE! I loved that part about the moths and basically everything that Darlington tells Alex.

And generally I don't like it when books go backl and forth. Just makes it confusing but Bardugo being the queen that she is, does it SO WELL. It made me want to turn the pages faster and know what's happening!

Also let's face it. It's dark and I'm here to tell you, it gets DARKER. If you thought that weird prognostication scene in Chapter one was dark, you've seen nothing yet. No spoilers for the rest of the book but if you want trigger warnings, they're just below this gif.

- rape, physical and mental abuse, child rape, drug abuse, date rape, overdose, self harm, murder -

What do you think so far??

Uma @books.bags.burgers  is a crazy albeit nice book dragon who when not decoding the human existence in secret labs, spends the day bemoaning her lack of pastel books and trying to make sure her TBR doesn't kill her overnight.

I didn’t know what I expected when I started reading this book, fantasy was always my favorite genre and Leigh Bardugo is the queen. The first chapter was hard to read, I didn’t understand a thing, but later it becomes interesting. Though Alex does remind me of the trope, the ordinary girl having extraordinary skills, her backstory intrigues me. I love playing detective so I’m excited to find the murderer. Can’t wait to read more

It started off with bang. We have seen Alex in two different forms. The story is going in back n forth just like the movement of the pendulum. Alex of Hallie and Lin & Yale Alex. She is only one able to see the grays which is a rare possibility among others. She has been seen in prognostication theater.
She is paying a hefty price for the hereabouts.

Darlington always knew that she is the chosen one. He has already choosen her despite having so many applications without even seeing her. Then it goes into the flashbacks how Alex is being drawn into it as the Dante. The plot is building up slowly at this stage between Darlington and alex. So far so good is all I can say as of now, it is indeed a dark twisted tale of the times.

Okay….. I am loving this genre and the mood being set!! From the Prologue, I knew this book is gonna be AMAZING!! Loving the story so far!! So cryptic and so vague!!! The diary entries adding mystery to the already mysterious story!

The research!!! I love reading about buildings and their histories. And as a Dan Brown fan… I am loving this!! I am going to research more on Yale!

Alex is an interesting character.. so mysterious indeed!! Her backstory is so sad, I wanna give her a big hug!!

Daniel Arlington is an interesting guy…. I like him… I wanna know more about him…. and WHERE IS HE NOW?! What is Spain!!!

    The code words!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 DAMN!

Virgil and Dante! I laughed when I saw her call herself Dante🤣🤣
Grays! I dint understand who they were at first…. then I understood they were ghosts… and it got super creepy and morbid!! Alex alone being able to see Grays when everyone else had to almost die to try was sooooo awesome to read!!🔥🔥

Prognostication was a tough word- I had to read it 5 times to pronounce it right… the procedure was too creepy to read too… thank god there weren’t any more details!

Okay! YES! A murder! Tell me more!!!!

Love the magic…. the jackals and the moths!!! Removing the tattoos… Ink Drunk! WOW!!! Real life printers!! Sooo awesome!!!

I cannot wait to read the rest!!!

I had some difficulty with the first pages. Writing was really hard for me to read. I think it was because of sudden jumbled from YA to adult fiction. Around chapter 3 I liked the story. It is like a Sherlock mystery story.I did not get attached to the characters yet but I can see that Alex is bad ass. I really can’t wait to read about haile and Alex.

Kind of sadly this is my first Bardugo and its thrown me completely! Its taken me by my ears and is like hanging me from the air, almost like as if caught by a pixie!
Secret societies, human exhumation for prediction, seeing ghosts, the Yale structures and the back and forth timelines, a lot is happening together and I am like re reading bits already. The critical thing is the language although lucid is almost classic level at bits and I have already tapped post its for utilization of the words am picking up! The scenes are almost getting under my skin and I almost screamed at the point where the grays were howling.

Darlington, Daniel, murder coming up, well am deep into this! lets see what just unfolds! Writing less to read more!
