Hullo BooksNBeyond fam!! *waves excitedly* Welcome to the first discussion of the Sorcery of Thorns readalong!! *throws confetti* Super SUPER excited for this one because SoT has been one of my favourite reads this year and I can't wait to see what you guys think! Grab your choice of beverage and let's get started!

! SPOILER ALERT ! The following post contains spoilers for the chapters 1 to 6. So unless you’ve read them, DON’T PROCEED ! SPOILER ALERT !

Let us all take a moment to appreciate that this is a book about books. Isn't that the dream?? Also these are grimoires that can come to life. I mean yes of course the Maleficts are scary and dangerous but BOOKS COMING TO LIFE?? Sign me up. Belle approves.

That being said, The Book of Eyes really grossed me out?? Like actual eyes? I made the mistake of imagining it in my head and now it appears in my nightmares. Curse you overactive imagination!

Also SUPER sad that the Director died? I so wasn't expecting it! I mean when I learny Elisabeth was an orphan, I kind of thought that the Director would be like mother to her, and kind of a "powerful-help-you-with-everything" figure like Gandalf/Dumbledore? I really would have liked to see more of her.

OMG I hate Warden Finch (I refuse to call him Director). Also he seems a lot like Filch from Harry Potter? Their names match, their character matches? They both want to whip the students / apprentices, are cruel for no reason and just so annoying!

Okay so Magister Thorne. *leans forward* Are you not intrigued? I mean it was kind of cliche? Young looking powerful dude who the heroine thinks is dangerous? But this is the kind of cliche I can get on board with.

Okay omg Silas?? When he said this -

"No doubt you have heard that sorcerers bargain away their lives to demons in exchange for their power."

I was like OMG Silas is a demon?? I wish Elisabeth would realize that soon. I'm intrigued by how she's unable to process her thoughts about him. Is Nathaniel the one messing with her thoughts or Silas?

What do you think of the story so far? Which character intrigues you?

Heyy.. my feelings exactly..
I’m a huge Beauty and the Beast fan.. so I love the characters much..
I thought the director as Dumbledore and finch as Filch too 😁😁 And also I think of Gavin Leatherwood whenever Nathaniel comes into picture.. ❤️❤️❤️ Gavin = Nathaniel.. And Silas is just 😍😍😍

I am loving Silas’s character. He is the perfect combination of sass and efficiency. Magistar Thorne, so far, is just too cloying perfect. He is handsome, charismatic, chivalrous and also just a tad bit dangerous and devilish (pun so intended). I hope his character becomes more nuanced going forward. Considering he is almost the titular character (Sorcery of Thorns = Sorcerer Thorne? Am I overthinking this?)
I really like the book’s protagonist, Elisabeth though. She is brave and adorable. So far she hasn’t been described as ‘pretty’ but has been shown to be smart, loyal, and courageous. Kudos to the author for penning down the character so well.
The entire Director and Warden Finch love angle strongly reminded me of Lily and Snape; especially after Warden Finch was unjust to Elsabeth because he was jealous of her. I don’t like him, but let’s see how the story progresses.

A book about a girl who works in the library and loves books! How can you resist?!?! 🙈

What caught my attention in the beginning was that it gets straight down to the action, but it isn’t abrupt? Somehow the pacing is so well done, that six chapters manage to contain a lot happening, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming! I’ve recently read a lot of books that tried beginning just like this one, action without much world building, but they all fell flat, so I thought it was just a personal dislike. 🤔
I’m glad that Sorcery of Thorns has proved otherwise though. 😍

As for Nathaniel, he’s the very cliche good looking, cold dude that litters nearly every YA premise but come on. There’s a reason it’s popular! It’s because everyone loves it 💁🏻‍♀️ And damn if I’m not down for this trope when it’s done well. 😍

And can we just agree that the scene where Elizabeth sneakily runs her fingers through Nathaniels hair to search for pointed ears was cute? Please? I read that scene three times and nearly melted 😂

Silas rings a lot of creepy bells in my head in the sixth chapter, and him being a demon doesn’t sound so good. 🙊. He’s really described poetically though and so gently and prettily I can’t help like him. 🙈

TBH Sorcery of Thorns has one of the strongest beginnings I’ve ever seen. I approve. 😌

OH. MY. GOD! It generally takes me a while to get hooked on a book but with this one I was involved in the story right off the bat! (Still under the cricket hangover here).

BUT ELIZABETH!!!!! I need to know more about her. There’s definitely something there (I hope).

I’m watching out for Nathaniel and Silas, they seem intriguing and I wish they get a nice development over the book.

Gosh I’m so engrossed in the story already I can’t keep my hands off it! The oay-off has to be AMAZING!

I forgot to add this yesterday. How do you pronounce the name of Summershall? Logic says Summers-hall but can it be Summer-shall? I know the latter probably doesn’t make any sense but, it can be anything. Fantasy …
