The Mercies Readalong - Day #3

! SPOILER ALERT ! The following post contains spoilers from Chapter 13 - 18. So unless you’ve read the chapters, DON’T PROCEED ! SPOILER ALERT !

-S P O I L E R S-

I'm feeling really sorry and sad for Ursa. But I didn't quite understand what happened with her health? she only mentions she has seen enough of her mother's troubles to know what the matter was but what was it? Is she pregnant? Is she sick? Or am I just dumb and not getting it?

So Ursa and Maren have finally met! There has started being a kind of understanding between the two. Two very starkly different women from completely different backgrounds and with completely different mannerisms. And I can't wait to see where it goes.

Also Maren has said yes to come help Ursa out. I want to see what the two women learn and understand from each other.

When the captain left I indeed felt a pang for Ursa. He seemed to be the one man she'd met who seemed to understand her and actually care for her.

CORNET IS AN A CLASS JERK. He didn't help his wife in the boat, and acted as if she was an embarrassment but comes to her for comfort. EXCUSE ME YOU SELFISH PIECE OF WORK. Also hes totally the person who will scream "BLASPHEMY" at every little thing and I hate him.

TORIL THAT EVIL JERK. No one even asked her if anyone was absent? No one need have known. But she had to sell out her fellow women like that and I'm so mad. Women pulling each other down is the worst thing.

I am so scared for Diinna. Cornet knows she did the runes and also knows she doesn't come to Kirke and I just worry eeeep. Also Diinna is such amystery. Why she is pulling away from Maren and even her own son is something I just don't understand, especially when she's feeling so alone why doesn't she take comfort in the sisterhood with Maren? i think she's very interesting but she is also annoying me.

What are your thoughts about Cornet? Is there any character you're mad at/ absolutely love??

Okay, this section was so engrossing, I didn’t even know that today’s chapters got over, and I kept going. Let’s just say I am scared for most of these women now.
Ya… I thought she had a miscarriage, no? I didn’t get the mother sick part too.. so either we both are, or it’s actually not clear. 🙈
Yayyy!!! They met!! But I am not able to be happy, I am mostly frightened about what will happen when somebody finds out.
Cornet is actually getting on my nerves more. Toril too! Seriously! I didn’t expect they can be more evil, seems like they haven’t reached their potential yet! 😬🙄
Ya, I felt like Diina is getting irritated to Maren with no reason.. she is just trying to help as far as I understand..
I am seriously hoping for some kind of power or twist or anything, to help these women.

  • I can’t wait to see how Maren helps Ursa with the household chores. You know, it felt like they both were embarrassed for various reasons. They have a feeling when in touch with each other, each feeling bad for their own behavior. Each wondering what the latter might think about them, which is very interesting to read. I enjoyed their awkward first meet. When I married and came to my in laws, I had been there but thankfully my mother in law was kind enough to spare me from taunts and what not. I feel same with Ursa and Maren. I am glad she found someone to hold on to amidst these chaos.

Toril and Cornet should be hanged together. May they rot in boathouse!

I am still confused about the illness and the blood that flowed through Ursa in the ship. I didn’t get where the storyline went from there. Why was she so scared? Why did the spotting of blood made her so nauseous? The writer should have pointed a little in this case, it feels like a lost cause. I am not sure what to assume here!

Diina, oh Diina. Why are you hell bent on digging your own grave? This minister will chew her alive, I feel. The way she behaves with Maren and baby Erik, I feel bad for all three. It feels like her husband was the only medium that connected the pieces and now with him dead, she has lost a purpose of bonding. Perpetual!
