! SPOILER ALERT ! The following post contains spoilers from Chapter 30 - 35. So unless you’ve read the chapters, DON’T PROCEED ! SPOILER ALERT !

-S P O I L E R S-

The book has officially made me ugly cry. Poor Kirsten. I was always scared for her and now they've gone and done it. The scene of her trial just about broke my heart. Kirsten, the woman who looked after everyone, taught them to fish, kept them fed, accused of being a witch.

It never fails to astound me how women she has known all her life step forward to accuse her, even Edne who came to catch fish with them. Was she the one who told them the nets didn't catch the fish but Kirsten's witchcraft did? How vile and cruel does one have to be to lie like that? And for what? Approval from Cornet? approval from the "kirke women"? Those scenes made me so sick to even think about how people could be like that. Maren's mother too. I understand how angry Maren is with her to have been one of those who spoke against Kirsten. And did they accuse Fru Olufsdatter simply because her house was the finest? simply because the Commissioner should have the best house? The pettiness and Vile nature of Toril and her women turns my stomach.

And Cornet. Does he really believe all the crap that came out his mouth during the trial? All those stories that sounded like fairytales? The overtly religious one scare me. The fact that they can put religion above all else and accuse anyone different is just sickening.

The ducking scene was so horrible. I liked how Maren asked does he forget it's a woman he means to push into the sea? So she swam, kept her herself afloat, THAT'S WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE THROWN IN WATER. I can't believe people actually used to believe that dumb thing UGH.

Pastor Kurtsson for all his weakness and flaws at least didn't speak against the women even though he couldn't speak for them.

I am glad Diinna left. I was getting quite annoyed with her yes but I'm glad she is safe and has taken Erik with her. I'd like to think they'll neevr catch her and she'll find a safe place with other Sami people and raise her son well.

  • I am done. Actually done with this dramatics. Kristen’s death was like a blow to my heart. I lived for her witty comebacks and the stand offs. All was well, it should have been. Now I am hoping for a horrible and monstrous karma for Cornet. I couldn’t even cry anymore after these chapters.

Society norms. I was very happy to see Pastor being the good guy here though. I was very surprised with the surprising change of events. And kudos to Diina. I think the author was setting up a pace for a perfect time at which Diina would exit the show. She had absolutely no use, anyway. Not that I see of any. I am hoping she and baby Erik can live peacefully from all this kirke nonsense and hell.

Things apart, that ducking scene gutted me the worst. How could your companions, the ladies you have grown up with, the neighbors you laughed and cried with, could testify against you? This is beyond absurd. I am Done😭

    Kirsten’s trial was really sickening.
I am sooo relieved that Diina left with Erik! I hope she remains safe afterwards.
Exactly feels like a hunt where innocence of people is not all a matter. Just how they make up stories is shocking.
From ship Ursa had miscarriage, as confirmed now.
How women are treated badly and treated as mere objects to reproduce and maintain the lineage, this book is a perfect example.

  • Yes, this book made me cry too. It is just so sad – the women who were once a unit were driven to this. The burning was so so sad. I was so sad for Maren. She lost such a dear friend. 😭
